Moments and movements: the rest of the story By Casey Lartigue, Jr.  Item #1: Shortly after my most recent Korea Times column " To donate, investigate " (March 11, 2014) was published, I received an email from a lady informing me that she wanted to donate 1 million won to the Mulmangcho School (for adolescent North Korean refugees). Item #2: At the conclusion of a March 15 forum ( "Don't Ask My Name": North Korean Women today ) I organized, one of my fans handed me a USB drive and 500,000 won to help sponsor a shipment of material about the outside world to North Korea. Item #3: A lady I have never met recently sent me 500,000 won, she said, to thank me for my activities. The point? Things get really interesting after my latest column is published or I host an event. I've received unsolicited invitations for dinner, lunch, to lead discussion groups, and speech requests. 2014-03-18 Chadwick kids...I love them and they love me!

This morning I gave a speech at the Chadwick International School. Wow! One of the most active audiences I've ever had. And the kids were really kids. I guess I didn't read the email closely enough, I assumed they were high school kids. But as I was walking around the school, I finally said, "There are only little people here." Meaning, children. It was too late to change my presentation too much, so I just did it. And the kids loved it! They had so many questions and even comments during the presentation. One little whipper snapper even challenged me!!! And at the end, the teachers were telling me that I was the most popular guest speaker they had ever had. So I feel sorry for anyone following in my footsteps. The kids lined up to get my autograph and were showing it off to the teachers.  One even went to get her mom, who happened to be at the school, to come by to take a photo with me. It was hilarious, one of the most pleasant times I've had as a speaker. One

2014-03-16 Planning meeting for rally

I had three meetings on Sunday, which should be my day off... The key meeting was about the rally for North Korean freedom. We made a couple of big decisions during our three hour meeting that I will be able to announce within a day or two... Thanks to Lovy Kim in particular for working some magic with her camera so we could all be included. And thanks to Sandra Kim, Yeonmi Park, Taeheun Lee and Lee Eunkoo for their feedback and suggestions. I advertised this widely, but they are the only ones who showed up! I think I saw Yeonmi every day that week. The following day we recorded our first podcast. https://caseylartigue.blogspot.com/2014/03/17-Casey-Yeonmi.html Eunkoo had only worked as a researcher, so this kind of street rally was definitely new territory for her. * * * Update: A South Korean boat ferry in mid-April, about 10 days before the rally was scheduled. Our partners wanted to cancel the rally, so we canceled! www.lovetnkr.org/donate

2014-03-17 Casey Lartigue Show featuring Yeonmi Park

We will soon be launching the Casey and Yeon Mi Show. Too much to say so I will say it a bit later, too many to thank, so I will thank them all later. Special thanks to  My co-host Yeon Mi Park for agreeing to join me, even though English is not her first language.  김정호 who suggested the idea of me hosting an online show and then didn't complain as I completely changed the format, focus and found a co-host he had never met. 정규재 for agreeing to allow us to host the show on his channel Producer Kim Hyung Jin for his guidance. We had been expecting that our producer would give us some tips. After we got settled he said, "Go!" in Korean. And thus our podcast started. I pretended not to notice that Yeonmi was with me, she asked, "Am I invisible? But as I told her: She would be internationally known one day, I just hoped that she would remember my name. And she has! I wrote about it here a month later:  The Casey Lartigue Show with YeonMi Park! (koreatimes.co.kr) Yes, Ye
